Beawre joins BRISA to advance safer, AI-enabled industrial workplaces

We are excited to announce the start of BRISA — Breakthrough Research on Industrial Safety Against Airborne Carcinogens and Emerging Pollutants, a new Horizon Europe research and innovation project in which Beawre is participating alongside 16 organisations from across Europe.

BRISA addresses an important challenge for European industry: protecting workers from exposure to hazardous airborne substances while helping energy-intensive industries move towards safer, more sustainable and more efficient operations.

The project officially kicked off on 15–16 June 2026 in Castelló, Spain, bringing together its 17 partners to begin four years of research, development and industrial validation.

Combining industrial safety, data and AI

BRISA aims to go beyond traditional monitoring by combining data, prediction and decision-support tools to better prevent exposure to airborne carcinogens and emerging pollutants. The project integrates real-time monitoring, AI-driven digital twins, regulatory and toxicological knowledge, and immersive training tools to support safer and more informed industrial decision-making. This aligns with Beawre’s vision of using AI to enable continuous, proactive risk management rather than reactive control.

Beawre in BRISA

For Beawre, BRISA is a concrete opportunity to demonstrate how continuous, AI-assisted risk management can be applied to real industrial safety challenges at scale. Within the project, Beawre is extending Control with new capabilities to automatically transform heterogeneous industrial documentation into structured risk registers and Bow-Tie catalogues, connect live sensor, AI and digital-twin evidence to those risks, and assess how changes in evidence affect risk levels and barrier effectiveness.

The objective is to turn fragmented and continuously evolving information into clear, traceable and actionable risk intelligence: explaining the current status of risks in natural language, identifying weak or uncertain barriers, recommending preventive and mitigating actions, and supporting their follow-up through structured action-management workflows.

From research to real industrial environments

The project will be validated across five industrial pilots in Europe (ceramics, sand casting, tyre recycling, and plastics-related sectors), ensuring that BRISA’s solutions are tested in diverse real-world conditions and can be transferred across industries.

An ambitious European collaboration

BRISA brings together research organisations, universities, technology companies and industrial partners from eight countries.

By 2035, the project aims to enable its solutions to reach 600–800 industrial facilities and help protect more than 45,000 workers, while also contributing to lower material consumption, reduced energy use and more efficient regulatory compliance.
